The Real Reason You Feel Stuck Even Though Your Business is Growing
At first glance, everything seems to be going well. Clients are getting results. Revenue is steady. You're booked out and in demand. But underneath the surface, something feels off. You're tired—more than tired—and no amount of sleep or vacation seems to fix it. You feel stretched thin, creatively drained, and stuck on how to keep growing without giving more than you already have.
This isn’t just a busy season. It’s something deeper. And it’s not because you’re not working hard enough. It’s because your business model is no longer working for you.
Most of us start with hustle. We build something from scratch, often on the side while juggling another job or raising a family. That hustle was necessary and even beautiful. It got us here. But the same grit and determination that fueled our growth can eventually lead to exhaustion.
When we spend our days in a constant state of busyness...running programs, sending emails, creating content, serving clients one-on-one, we have no margin. We can’t step back and think strategically. There’s little room for creativity. Even decision-making feels heavy. And when that happens over and over, burnout starts to settle in, and it hits us on every level...mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
We’ve told ourselves to manage our time better. To get more organized. Maybe hire someone. And while those things matter, they’re often not the root of the issue.
The Real Problem
Many service providers and coaches are operating with a model that trades time for money. That worked in the beginning. But no matter how good you are at what you do, you eventually hit a ceiling. There are only 24 hours in a day. That’s a built-in limit, and working harder doesn’t change that.
If your schedule is full, your income has a limit. Your reach can only go so far. And your energy definitely has a cap. You can get better at what you do, but without changing the structure of how you offer it, you’ll stay stuck.
When we build a business that's dependent on selling our time, we will always hit the ceiling.
The real shift begins when you start moving from one-on-one to one-to-many. That doesn’t mean you have to stop working with clients individually. In fact, that one-on-one work may always be part of what you love and offer. But, as my good friend Gala McCray says, if 80% or more of your income comes from one service, you're putting your business (and your wellbeing) at risk.
What happens if you need to step away? A health issue, a family crisis, or simply needing more margin to think and breathe—any of those could disrupt your income stream. Your business becomes fragile instead of sustainable.
Bringing your work online by creating a course, membership, or digital resource allows you to keep showing up and serving, without burning out. You work smarter, not harder as you expand your impact without selling more of your time.
The business model that you have now was great for your business in its previous season because it got you to where you are today! But it's not the business model that will take you where you want to be. In order for you to step into your future, a future that is filled with freedom, you need to start to shift your business model.
This isn’t about building a massive team or scaling for the sake of scaling. It’s about reclaiming your time, your creativity, and your passion. It’s about building a business that gives back to you instead of taking everything from you.
So take a moment to reflect. Celebrate the business you’ve built. It’s taken effort, persistence, and a whole lot of courage. And then ask yourself honestly: Do I need to shift my model and incorporate ways to serve one to many, so I can keep growing without losing myself along the way?
Because once you see that the real problem isn’t your time management but your business structure, everything starts to get a whole lot clearer. And from that clarity, you can build something that’s not only profitable, but also sustainable and life-giving—for you and the people you serve.
